Mobility & Disability Products lead to Rise in Home Insurance Affordability
For the disabled or the elderly, getting around your home can be exhaustive especially without the right equipment. When it comes to stair lifts, adapted bathroom fittings and other mobility related products, these can help ease the burden of disability. Unfortunately, having these added disability aids in your property can greatly increase your home insurance premium.
Home Insurance Cutbacks
This is causing many to cut back on their home insurance cover and in some cases do without. At a time when everyone is feeling the effects of the spending cuts it is the less fortunate that are more likely to cut back on home insurance.
Julie Owens, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket said “At a time when people are feeling the pinch, it is easy to assume a standard home insurance policy will be enough for you - however this could be a mistake. The most important thing to consider when buying home insurance is what type of cover will suit your circumstances.”
This statement regarding home insurance is backed up by housing charity Shelter, which found that 42 per cent of people could no longer afford home insurance.
Specialist Mobility Insurance
There are a number of specialist insurance companies available and it is always worth shopping round for the best cover. The cheapest insurance cover is not always the best as these policies can have certain clauses or not cover you entirely, leaving you to foot the bill that you expect your insurance to cover.
Mobility Product Insurance
Mobility products open up a wealth of opportunity in both getting around in and outside your home. These products do not come cheap and can be expensive to replace or repair, therefore it is very important that you have insurance cover for accidental damage, theft or even causing damage or injury to someone else or their property.
Accidental Damage Insurance
Accidents do happen and although this can increase the cost of your insurance premium it is always worth having, especially for scooters when out and about.
Public Liability Insurance
With more cars on the roads and high streets always busy, keep in mind the risk of causing damage or injury to someone else or their property. With so many ‘No Win, No Fee’ lawyers advertising on TV, one ‘bump’ could see you end up in court with some extremely high legal costs.
Theft Insurance
It is thought that over 200 mobility scooters are stolen each year. Depending on the make and model, some mobility scooters can be worth up to £6,000. When out and about on the roads on your mobility scooter, you may want to have a breakdown cover policy in place, just in case.
